Glowing skin is one of the best indicators of a person’s health. We are born with a gift that accompanies us all our lives – our largest organ SKIN. It protects and makes us look and feel beautiful. Today is your day to learn HOW-TO advance your daily routine with a small step that benefits the health of one of your most precious possessions – your skin.
We all strive for a better looking. What many lose during such daily race is the sight of things that are readily available to maintain the well-being of our skin. Fresh air, whole foods, i.e., non-processed foods rich in fiber, physical activity and quality of skin care products – these are a handful of things that everybody has access to… if and when they open their mind to receive and use that what is accessible in the now.
If you are already doing your part to maintain and improve the skin and its protective and beautifying functions, here’s one more HOW-TO to add to your arsenal!
Manuka Honey is one of those under-utilized resources in the food category that boosts skin’s anti-inflammatory function. When used as a RAW ingredient – meaning that the honey did not go through pasteurization – Manuka Honey can reduce redness in your skin, heal congested skin and eczema.
What you may be surprised to learn is that Manuka oxygenates pores making it impossible for the inflammation-causing bacteria to survive. Who wouldn’t love it?! For people with the skin prone to acne, Manuka could be one of the go-to resources. However, every person could yield the benefits of Manuka for their skin health!
We are all subject to daily attacks from the environmental factors and polluters. Our skin serves us as the first-responder, the shield, that thwarts all these attacks again and again and again. Why not be kind and thoughtful of our skin and aid it to do what it does the best? Even more: Why not make our skin even more beautiful, glowing and thriving for all the years we live on this planet?
Here are some easy ways to incorporate Manuka into your lifestyle to empower and improve it.
Manuka Honey Facial Mask
It is best used after the shower when the pores are open to receive the potent phytochemicals from the Manuka plant. But you can always take a facial steam bath for about 3-5 minutes – please, do not use an extreme steam on your face, – then apply this facial mask.
MASK: Mix a tablespoon of Manuka Honey with a pinch of cinnamon and apply this mixture onto your face and neck. Wait for about 15-20 minutes, then wash off with warm water, followed by a cool water splash to close the pores.
TIP: Leave the same mask mixture on the skin blemishes as a your overnight spot treatment.
Manuka Honey Cleanser
Clean your face of makeup first. Use a small dollop of Manuka Honey with a drop of water to massage all around your face. Use circular movements, avoiding sensitive eye-areas. Massage for about 2-3 minutes. During this time, blood flow to the surface of the skin increases, making this cleansing very effective. Use a moist sponge or cotton round for massaging and increasing exfoliation process. Rinse off with cool water to close the pores.
Dark Spot Treatment
To help your skin to heal and diminish some scars and blemishes, add a teaspoon of each fresh lemon juice and organic cane sugar to a tablespoon of Manuka Honey. Massage this mixture into your steamed skin (better used after shower) and wear it for about 15-20 minutes. Rinse off with cool water to close the pores.
When you buy Manuka Honey, do look for the NUMBER on the label. This number could range from 5+ to 50+. The higher the number, the more potent anti-inflammatory and antibiotic – antibacterial – properties of the honey are! The number could be the representation of one or all three of Manuka Honey classifications: UMF®, NPA and TA.
UMF stands for Unique Manuka Factor and can be used only to Manuka Honey that was produced in New Zealand and went through rigorous independent tests that confirmed its non-peroxide activity and the valuable chemical compounds found only in Manuka. UMF is a measure of non-peroxide activity and compounds within the Manuka Honey, mostly of its MGO (Methylglyoxal) that carries anti-bacterial benefits. MGO serves as a measure of and as a classification ingredient for Manuka Honey’s strength and quality.
NPA stands for Non-Peroxide Activity and is a measure of anti-bacterial activity of the honey. NPA is unique to the Manuka Honey and could be used instead of UMF to showcase the potency of the honey.
TA stands for Total Activity and is a total summation of non-peroxide and peroxide activity within the Manuka Honey. It is graded on different scale and is different from UMF and NPA.
Take advantage of the Manuka Honey’s anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties every day! Take a couple of spoonfuls of honey with your tea or water, use this honey on your skin as a cleanser, a mask or spot treatment agent. Wash your skin with the healing properties of Manuka inside out. And with your daily routine incorporating Manuka, your skin will thank you with its healthy glow.
